Role Purpose

The role is within the Financial Crimes Intelligence Unit, reporting to the Financial Crimes Intelligence Director, with ultimate line to the Group Chief Security Officer.

You will form part of the Financial Crimes Intelligence Unit (FCIU) team primarily responsible for designing, creating and deploying advanced analytics and machine learning solutions to detect and control fraud in multiple Prudential business units. As a Data Engineer in this team you will be responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, and optimizing data flow and collection for cross-functional and cross-regional teams. The Data Engineer will support software developers, database architects, data analysts and data scientists on data initiatives to ensure optimal data delivery architecture and consistency.

In addition to the above core activities, the role may include oversight and management of a small team of 1-2 people.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Create optimal data pipeline architectureCreate / change ETL logic based on source dataAssemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirementsBuild the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using “big data” technologiesWork with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.Create and implement approaches to ensuring data separation and security across national boundaries, across multiple data centers, and multiple cloud and SaaS providersCreate data tools for analytics and data scientist team members and guide data best practices across multiple projectsWork with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems

Key Qualifications

Should have experience:Fraud, financial crime, customer insight or compliance-based projects that utilise detection or predictive modelsIndependent planning, execution, and management of projects involving statistical approaches, classification, exploration, and detectionAgile development methodologyStrong analytical skills developed through working with big data and data sets5+ years of experience in a Data Engineer role, with ideally an advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field.

Target Technical SkillsAzure Data Bricks, Data Factory and SynapseGreenplumDevelopment environment skills (code control, IDEs, BitBucket, Artifactory Jenkins, Azure DevOps, BitBlocks)Data mapping, relational data and object orientationExperience of working on operational environments (BitBucket, Artifactory Jenkins, Azure DevOps, BitBlocks)Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, ScalaETL tools, data cleansing, handling data quality and related issuesGoogle Cloud big data servicesElasticSearchExperience with software as service
